J.J. Starling and Eddie Lampkin Jr. each scored over 20 points, but Syracuse (11-14, 5-9 ACC) fell to Miami (6-18, 2-11 ACC), 91-84, on Tuesday night at the Watsco Center.
Starling led the Orange with 25 points, while Lampkin contributed 22 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for his 10th double-double of the season. Matthew Cleveland paced the Hurricanes with a game-high 32 points.
Syracuse held a 61-58 lead midway through the second half before Miami seized control with a decisive offensive surge. A three-pointer from Paul Djobet tied the game, and consecutive three-pointers from Cleveland and Jalil Bethea helped the Hurricanes build a 69-63 advantage. Despite Syracuse’s efforts to close the gap, Miami maintained their lead by shooting 9-of-11 from the field, including four three-pointers, in the final 9:13. The Hurricanes also secured the win by converting 9-of-11 free throws down the stretch.
The Orange started the second half strong, overcoming a six-point halftime deficit with a 6-of-8 shooting stretch to tie the game at 52. Lampkin and Chris Bell were key contributors in the first half, combining for 24 of Syracuse’s 37 points. However, Miami’s efficient shooting helped them take a 43-37 lead into halftime.
