Auburn sells vacant homes to boost affordable housing

  • Staff Report

Auburn City Council sold three foreclosed properties to Housing Visions, a Syracuse nonprofit, for $5,000 each as part of a $25 million plan to combat the city’s affordable housing crisis. The nonprofit aims to create 50 permanent housing units to address rising homelessness.

The properties, located on Derby Avenue, Venice Street, and Lansing Street, require significant repairs. Auburn changed its property sales approach to prevent unaccountable buyers from neglecting homes.

This initiative supports Auburn’s recent designation as a pro-housing community.
