President Donald Trump declared February 9, 2025, as the inaugural Gulf of America Day, following his recent executive order renaming the Gulf of Mexico. The order, signed on January 20, aims to “restore American pride” by renaming the U.S. Continental Shelf region bordered by Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, and neighboring countries Mexico and Cuba.
During his first visit to the renamed Gulf of America, Trump emphasized the area’s historical significance and importance to America’s growth and strength. He called on citizens and public officials to celebrate the occasion with ceremonies and activities.
The proclamation marks part of the administration’s broader initiative to recognize symbols of what it deems “American greatness.”
