New York Attorney General Letitia James, along with 20 other attorneys general, filed an amicus brief supporting a lawsuit against the federal “buyout” plan. The directive, issued by the Trump administration, pressures over 800,000 federal employees to resign and is accused of violating federal ethics rules.
The AGs argue that mass job losses would disrupt essential services like health care, veteran support, and disaster response. They also criticized the plan for failing to provide details on benefits and rights, creating confusion and fear among federal workers.
A U.S. District Court judge temporarily blocked the plan’s deadline, with a hearing set for February 10. James urged federal employees to consult their unions before making any decisions.
