Ontario County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a Fairport man at Bristol Mountain Ski Resort on Wednesday evening following an investigation into alleged financial fraud at the popular recreation spot.
Joseph Charles Franchuk, 19, of Victor Road in Fairport, was charged with theft of services and petit larceny after reportedly using fraudulent credit cards to repeatedly acquire day passes at the South Bristol resort. Authorities say Franchuk’s scheme enabled him to receive both the resort’s services and a refund of the payment, leading to a financial loss of $544 for Bristol Mountain.
The investigation culminated with Franchuk’s arrest at 18:39 hours on February 5. Deputies issued him an appearance ticket for the charges, requiring him to appear before South Bristol Town Court on a later date.
Further details about the case were not disclosed, including whether additional individuals or fraudulent transactions are under investigation. The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office can be reached at their Canandaigua office for non-emergency inquiries related to the incident.
