Canandaigua secures road salt amid regional shortage

  • Staff Report

The Town of Canandaigua has successfully obtained additional road salt to combat a regional shortage that has strained supplies across the area. The move comes in response to prolonged winter weather that left the town’s reserves critically low.

Town Highway Superintendent Jim Fletcher led the efforts to secure the salt, ensuring roads remain safe for both residents and travelers. Fletcher emphasized that maintaining clear and drivable roads is a top priority despite the supply challenges.

The shortage has affected multiple municipalities, driven by a constrained supply chain. Although the town had to pay a premium for the extra salt, officials noted that their contract includes a clause for liquidated damages. This stipulation will credit the town for any price discrepancies if the contracted supplier fails to deliver as agreed.

The Canandaigua Highway Department has been recognized for its dedication to road safety during the difficult winter conditions. Local officials expressed gratitude to Fletcher and his team for their continued hard work.
