Bloomfield’s Finger Foods Farm launches groundbreaking soup line at Wegmans

An organic family farm in the Finger Lakes has debuted a line of preservative-free, farm-fresh frozen soups now available at Wegmans stores across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic. Sourced from New York-grown produce, Finger Foods Farm soups are a flavorful, nutritious option that delivers farm-to-table freshness straight from the freezer aisle.

Co-owner Sarah Cookfair explains that the inspiration behind the soups stemmed from a personal struggle to find convenient, healthy meals without compromising on taste. “I wanted something delicious, nutritious, and easy,” she shared, noting that freezing their homemade soups quickly became popular among friends and family. This positive feedback drove the Cookfairs to scale up the idea for broader availability.

With 15 years of experience in organic farming, Sarah and her husband Alex Cookfair remain committed to both environmental stewardship and strengthening local food systems. Ingredients for the soups are harvested and frozen at peak ripeness, providing a taste of New York’s rich agricultural heritage. By prioritizing partnerships with neighboring farms, Finger Foods Farm also contributes to the resilience of the regional economy.

Unlike mass-market soups, which rely heavily on additives to build flavor, Finger Foods Farm soups use high-flavor produce varieties that Sarah and Alex have carefully selected over the years. “By freezing our soups, we keep that ‘fresh-from-the-kitchen’ flavor we think all soup should have,” Sarah said.

Currently, the soup line includes Butternut Squash, Tuscan Bean, and Southwest Vegetable—two of which are vegan options. Each flavor is gluten-free and adaptable to various meal combinations. Sarah emphasized the versatility, stating, “A simple bowl of soup can be the center of a meal with the right additions: fresh bread, a bit of cheese, or some protein.”

For the Cookfairs, the goal is to offer meals that not only nourish but also reinforce connections to local farms. The couple’s passion for sustainability and high-quality food continues to drive their operations as they expand their offerings.
