Residents of Geneva and the Finger Lakes have reported sightings of law enforcement officers who appear to be federal immigration agents, though officials have not confirmed their presence or purpose. Social media posts show officers wearing tactical vests labeled “police” or “HSI.”
Some witnesses say individuals were taken from an apartment building known to house migrant workers. Local advocates assisting immigrant families say many are afraid to go to work or send their children to school.
New York State Police, the Ontario County Sheriff, and Geneva Police say they have no knowledge of the operation and have not been asked to assist. Federal agencies have yet to respond to inquiries.
