Following a fire in Ovid suspected to involve an overheated charging device, Geneva Fire Chief Del Parrotta is urging caution with lithium-ion batteries and chargers.
The January 21 blaze destroyed multiple buildings, leaving businesses and residents displaced.
Parrotta spoke with the Finger Lakes Times advising residents use manufacturer-approved chargers, avoiding flammable surfaces, and not overloading outlets.

Damaged cords and batteries should be replaced, and devices should never be left charging overnight or unattended.
