FRIDAY HS BASKETBALL REPORT: Geneva boys outlast Mynderse for sixth straight win; Waterloo girls pull away late to top Palmyra-Macedon

Friday night delivered an action-packed lineup of high school basketball, with 21 games across the Wayne-Finger Lakes region.

Highlights included the Geneva boys outlasting Mynderse to secure a season sweep and extend their win streak to six games, while the Waterloo girls pulled away late to defeat Palmyra-Macedon, also completing a season sweep.

The Red Raiders held a 16-12 lead after the first quarter and a 33-30 advantage at halftime, but the Tigers dominated the second half, outscoring Palmyra-Macedon 39-23 to earn the season sweep and their fourth consecutive victory.

The Panthers built an 11-point lead in the first half and entered halftime up by seven, but the Blue Devils stormed back in the third quarter, outscoring Geneva 23-14 to take a two-point lead into the final period. The fourth quarter saw both teams exchanging leads until Andrew Green hit a clutch go-ahead three-pointer for the Panthers with a minute remaining. DePatrick Overstreet then sealed the victory by hitting 2-of-4 free throws in the final 20 seconds. Geneva owns a six-game win streak, while Mynderse has dropped five of their last six.

The Falcons came out strong, racing to a 23-9 lead after the first quarter. The Lions chipped away, cutting the deficit to seven by halftime, and the margin remained the same heading into the fourth quarter. With 3:34 left in the game, Stephen LeBrecht tied it at 57 with a reverse layup. Moments later, Lyons took their first lead since the opening minute as LeBrecht grabbed an offensive rebound and banked it in. The teams exchanged leads in a tense final three minutes. With 1.4 seconds remaining, CG Finney called a timeout to set up a play, and it paid off as Ethan Krog inbounded the ball and found a wide-open Braelen Broome, who scored the game-winning layup at the buzzer. Lyons has dropped two of their last three games, with the lone win coming against a banged-up Marcus Whitman team.

The Red Raiders held a three-point lead at halftime, but the Tigers took control in the third quarter and outscored Palmyra-Macedon 43-32 in the second half to grab the win. Waterloo rebounded from their blowout loss to Pittsford Sutherland on Tuesday and improved to 7-0 in league play, while the Red Raiders suffered their second consecutive defeat.
