A local woman is recounting the moments before a devastating fire leveled a large portion of downtown Ovid.

Kelsy Thorn, a single mother of three, recounted the moments leading up to the massive fire that destroyed buildings on Main Street.

Thorn told 13WHAM-TV that smoke began pouring from her apartment walls Tuesday evening, prompting her to grab her children and warn others to evacuate.

The fire, likely caused by a charging device according to Sheriff Tim Thompson, left many residents displaced and businesses destroyed.

Thorn expressed deep sorrow, sharing guilt over the tragedy while mourning the loss of her car, belongings, and her cat. She emphasized that many victims, including families with children and local businesses, are now struggling to rebuild.
