Pentagon deploys 1,500 troops to southern border

The Pentagon will send 1,500 active-duty troops to the U.S.-Mexico border, adding to the 2,500 National Guard and Reserve forces already there. This move aligns with President Trump’s executive orders to bolster border security.

The troops will assist with logistics, transportation, and barrier construction but are barred from law enforcement roles unless the Insurrection Act is invoked. This deployment reflects Trump’s broader immigration strategy, including his declaration of a national emergency at the border to curb illegal crossings.

Similar deployments occurred under both Trump and Biden, with troops focusing on support tasks like constructing barriers and managing supplies. This effort continues the administration’s use of military resources for border security.
