Wells College has accused the village of Aurora of obstructing its closure process by proposing local landmark status for three college-owned properties, according to new reporting by The Citizen.
Aurora residents and preservation advocates argue the several buildings, designed by renowned architect Walter Netsch, have significant historical and cultural value.
Wells College opposes the designations, claiming they would hinder its ability to sell the campus, creating financial hardship and potentially violating property rights.
Despite opposition, the Community Preservation Panel advanced the proposals, with a public hearing set for Feb. 19.
