UnitedHealth Group CEO Andrew Witty honored Brian Thompson, the health insurance executive murdered last month, praising his dedication to improving the U.S. health care system. Witty acknowledged public support following the tragedy and highlighted the nation’s costly health care as the root issue behind access and quality concerns.

During an investor call, Witty emphasized the need for a simpler, more affordable system, noting U.S. health care costs are driven by higher prices for services and prescriptions compared to other nations. Thompson, a father of two, led UnitedHealthcare since 2021 and had worked at the company for two decades.

The tragedy sparked debate on health care frustrations, with most Americans condemning the act while expressing understanding of systemic anger.
