New York conservation officials rescued a bull moose that fell through the ice on Lake Abanakee in the Adirondacks.
Spotted by a passerby, the moose struggled in freezing water 200 feet from shore. Forest rangers and an Environmental Conservation Police officer used ice rescue training, cutting a channel in the ice to guide the moose to safety.
After two hours in the icy water, the moose was exhausted but managed to climb onto the ice and return to the woods. Officials emphasized the challenges of such rescues, noting the risks to both the animal and rescuers.
