Born in Rochester to John and Jacqueline Wagenhauser, David grew up in Spencerport and graduated from Spencerport High School in 1977. He earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from SUNY Brockport in 1981 and a juris doctor from Syracuse University in 1986. His legal career began in Washington, D.C., where he met his wife, Laura. They married in 1998 and later settled in Rochester, where David became CFO of Westside Home Care Agency.

A passion for public service led David to serve as a village trustee in Brockport and to run for Congress in New York’s 24th District in 2024. He was deeply committed to his community and had a gift for uplifting those around him.

David’s personal interests reflected his boundless energy and creativity. An avid runner, he completed over 15 marathons, including the Boston Marathon twice. He also excelled as a self-taught carpenter, renovating homes and restoring the family residence in Waterloo. Above all, David cherished his role as a father, coaching his son Ethan’s soccer team and appointing his daughter Dana as his campaign manager during his congressional run.

David is remembered as a man of faith, conviction, and unwavering optimism. His family, friends, and community will continue to honor his legacy.
