Big Lots avoids closure with last-minute sale

Big Lots has been acquired in a deal to keep up to 400 stores and two distribution centers open, saving thousands of jobs.

The agreement, involving Gordon Brothers Retail Partners and Variety Wholesalers, ensures the stores will operate under the Big Lots brand.

Despite the sale, layoffs at Big Lots’ Columbus headquarters remain uncertain, following a 30% reduction in its footprint with over 400 closures in 2024. The company filed for bankruptcy in September, but the transaction offers hope for sustaining its operations.
