Sixteen landmarks across New York State were illuminated in dark blue on January 9 in recognition of National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day. Governor Kathy Hochul directed the tribute to honor the dedication and sacrifices of law enforcement officers statewide.
“Public safety is my number one priority, and I’m incredibly grateful for the sacrifices law enforcement make to protect our communities,” Governor Hochul said. “New York stands with law enforcement — today and every day — and I am committed to doing everything I can to support their courageous efforts.”
Landmarks lit for the occasion included the iconic 1 World Trade Center, Niagara Falls, the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge, and the Empire State Plaza. Other locations ranged from Albany’s Alfred E. Smith State Office Building to the Lake Placid Olympic Center and the Kosciuszko Bridge.
The gesture underscores the state’s appreciation for law enforcement and their role in ensuring community safety. National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day is observed annually on January 9 to acknowledge the service and bravery of police officers and other law enforcement personnel across the country.
