The town of Danby has been awarded a $4.58 million state grant to fund 75% of a proposed municipal sewer system aimed at supporting growth in its hamlets while protecting water quality.
The project would replace outdated septic systems, reduce nutrient pollution in Cayuga Lake, and enable denser, more affordable development in Central and West Danby. Town officials must now secure additional funding to cover the remaining costs and gain community support, as ongoing maintenance would be taxpayer-funded.
The proposal will be discussed at the January 22 Town Board meeting, where officials will weigh the benefits of long-term growth against potential financial concerns for residents.
