Fourteen staff members at Marcy Correctional Facility have been suspended or resigned following the fatal beating of inmate Robert Brooks. Governor Kathy Hochul directed the termination process based on evidence from ongoing investigations.
The suspended individuals include sergeants, correction officers, and a nurse. Additionally, the New York Attorney General’s Office recused itself from the case, appointing Onondaga County District Attorney Bill Fitzpatrick as special prosecutor.
Brooks suffered severe injuries leading to his death, and investigations into the incident are ongoing as authorities seek accountability for those involved.
