The Steuben County Historical Society will host a free presentation on the region’s geology and geography on Friday, Jan. 10, at 4 p.m. at the Bath Fire Hall.
Retired social studies teacher Rick Bates will discuss how the area’s valleys, lakes, and mucklands have shaped local rivers, roads, towns, and railroads, beginning with the Ice Age’s impact.
Kirk House, the society’s director, highlighted how the county’s geology influenced river traffic in the 1700s and inspired landmarks like Stony Brook State Park.
