The National Weather Service has issued lake effect snow warnings and winter weather advisories for Cayuga, Wayne, and Monroe counties, with heavy snowfall and gusty winds expected to create hazardous travel conditions through the weekend.

In Cayuga and Wayne counties, snowfall totals are projected to reach between 1 and 2 feet in the heaviest snow bands, while Monroe County could see accumulations of 6 to 12 inches. Snowfall rates may exceed 2 inches per hour in some areas, significantly reducing visibility and causing rapidly changing road conditions.
Gusty winds, with speeds reaching up to 40 mph on Saturday, are expected to cause blowing and drifting snow, further complicating travel. Officials are urging drivers to avoid unnecessary travel and to exercise caution on snow-covered roads.
The most persistent snowfall is expected along and north of Route 104 in Monroe County and across northeast Wayne County, where lake-effect bands are anticipated to remain concentrated.
Conditions are expected to gradually improve by late Sunday as lake-effect activity begins to weaken. However, lingering snow showers and icy conditions could continue into early next week.
Travelers are advised to stay updated on the latest weather forecasts, allow extra time for travel, and keep emergency kits in their vehicles.
