New York receives $32 million for low-carbon transportation projects

  • Staff Report

Governor Kathy Hochul announced a $32 million federal grant to advance the use of low-carbon materials in New York State transportation projects. The funding, provided through the Inflation Reduction Act, supports the Department of Transportation’s efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by adopting sustainable construction materials.

The initiative will focus on evaluating low-carbon materials, updating technical specifications, and training staff and stakeholders. Embodied carbon, which accounts for a significant portion of construction emissions, will be a key target in these efforts.

Governor Hochul emphasized the importance of using cleaner materials to combat climate change, while Senator Schumer highlighted the dual benefits of economic growth and environmental responsibility from this investment.
