New York distributes $6.5 billion in SNAP aid

Governor Kathy Hochul announced that New York provided nearly $6.5 billion in SNAP food assistance in 2024, supporting about 3 million residents monthly, including families, seniors, and individuals with disabilities.

Households received an average of $376 per month to help cover food costs. Hochul highlighted SNAP as the state’s most effective tool against hunger and urged Congress to sustain funding.

Beyond addressing food insecurity, SNAP boosts the economy, generating $1.54 in economic activity for every dollar spent.
