After failing to gain state approval in 2024, Auburn city officials are reviving efforts to establish a hotel and short-term rental tax.
According to The Citizen, City Council will vote on a resolution authorizing Mayor Jimmy Giannettino to request legislative support from Assemblyman John Lemondes and state Sen. Rachel May.
The proposed tax, up to 5%, would be added to the existing county occupancy tax and could generate $500,000 annually for city services and infrastructure projects.
Despite initial support from May, Lemondes opposed the bill last year, preventing its advancement.
