The Butler Preservation Society hopes to repaint and repair the 1836 Church Museum ahead of the town’s 2026 Bicentennial, according to The Finger Lakes Times. Trustee Lori Schmidt launched a fundraiser to raise $20,000 for the project, which includes fixing rotting wood, repairing windows, and repainting the structure.
The church, once a Methodist Episcopal Church, now houses local artifacts, including Hibbard Basket Works items and early cash recorders. Fundraising efforts, like a recent bake sale that brought in $800, and membership fees support the restoration.
Both the church and the nearby 1824 Roe Cobblestone Schoolhouse, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, require ongoing maintenance.
