The bald eagle, long a symbol of American strength and freedom, was officially designated the national bird on Christmas Eve after President Biden signed Senate Bill 4610 into law.

The legislation, unanimously passed by Congress, amends Title 36 of the U.S. Code to formally recognize the bird’s status. Senator Amy Klobuchar highlighted Minnesota’s deep connection to bald eagles, home to one of the largest populations and the National Eagle Center.

The bald eagle, featured on the Great Seal since 1782, now holds its rightful place as an official emblem of American identity.
