The Canandaigua City Council and school district have approved a new three-year agreement to maintain and expand the school resource officer program, according to the Finger Lakes Times. The revised deal increases the district’s share of funding for a full-time officer and adds another part-time officer.
The new pact, which runs through July 2028, shifts the district’s contribution for the full-time SRO from 50% to 60%. SROs help foster positive ties between students and police while keeping campuses safe. Full-time officers also serve in youth roles during summer months.
In other council actions, a historical marker at Kershaw Park was approved for an interactive museum project, and the city greenlit the first Dyl’s Pickleball Tournament fundraiser for August.
