The IRS will distribute up to $1,400 each to approximately 1 million taxpayers who missed claiming the Recovery Rebate Credit on their 2021 tax returns. Payments, totaling $2.4 billion, will be sent via direct deposit or paper check by late January 2025.
These payments apply to taxpayers who filed a 2021 return but either left the rebate field blank or incorrectly listed $0. No action is required for eligible recipients, and the IRS will notify them by mail.
Taxpayers who haven’t filed their 2021 returns can still claim the credit by the April 15, 2025, deadline.
