The Cornell women’s basketball team lost to Stony Brook 54-40 on Sunday afternoon and moved to 3-9 on the season.
The first quarter of play began with Stony Brook going on a nine-point run, which Cornell then chipped away at to end the first down by four. The second quarter featured back-and-forth play ending the first half with Stony Brook up 19-12. In the third quarter, the teams went back-and-forth until Cornell hit an offensive stride and had an eight-point run bringing the game within four. Stony Brook solidified its win with a ten-point run in the fourth quarter and despite Cornell’s late effort, the Seawolves took the win 54-40.
Summer Parker-Hall led Cornell in scoring with 13 points, she also led the team in rebounds with seven. Paige Engels led the team in assists with three. Emily Pape led the team in blocks with four, matching Summer Parker-Hall’s team high four blocks in a game. Pape also led in steals with one.
FIRST QUARTER
- Emily Pape opened the scoring for the Big Red with a layup.
- Stony Brook responded with a nine-point run.
- Azareya Kilgoe made back-to-back jumpers for Cornell.
- Zaida Gonzalez hit a jumper for Stony Brook to put the Seawolves up 11-6 at the end of the first.
SECOND QUARTER
- Gonzalez hit a jumper to open up the second quarter scoring for Stony Brook.
- Summer Parker-Hall answered with a jumper for Cornell.
- Gonzalez made another shot to put the Seawolves up 15-8.
- Clarke Jackson made a jumper for Cornell.
- Breauna Ware made a layup for Stony Brook to put the Seawolves up 17-10.
- Paige Engels made a layup for the Big Red to cut its deficit to five and end the first half with Stony Brook up 19-12.
THIRD QUARTER
- Janay Brantley opened the second half with a layup for the Seawolves.
- Parker-Hall answered with a layup.
- Stony Brook went on a four-point run putting the Seawolves up 25-16.
- Emily Pape made a layup and was fouled on the shot. She made her free-throw.
- Stony Brook went on a four-point run to put them up 29-19.
- Cornell went on an eight-point run to cut the deficit to two.
- Gonzalez hit a jumper for Stony Brook.
- Engels hit a three for Cornell.
- The Seawolves went on a four-point run to end the third up 35-29.
FOURTH QUARTER
- Stony Brook opened the fourth quarter with a four-point run of free-throws.
- Kilgoe made a layup for Cornell.
- King hit a three for the Seawolves.
- Parker-Hall made a jumper for the Big Red.
- Gonzalez made a layup for Stony Brook.
- Parker-Hall hit a jumper for Cornell.
- The Seawolves answered with a ten-point run to go up 54-35.
- Cornell went on a five-point run, but it wasn’t enough as the game ended 54-40 in favor of Stony Brook.
