The annual great fruitcake giveaway in Bath celebrated its 30th year Monday with a new owner, Deputy County Manager Chris Brewer, taking home the quirky holiday staple.

The tradition began in 1991 when a fruitcake purchase for charity sparked a fun, community-centered giveaway. Over the years, the cake has been involved in ransoms, thefts, and even landed in the county jail.

Brewer, honored to continue the legacy, called it “a real piece of Steuben County history” that spreads holiday cheer.
