Grocery prices surge again, driven by key items

Grocery prices rose sharply in November, with eggs leading the way, jumping 8.2% due to a bird flu outbreak. Shoppers are also paying more for beef, coffee, and beverages, causing the largest monthly increase since January 2023.

Economists say these price hikes reflect temporary disruptions, not systemic inflation. Despite this, food remains significantly pricier compared to pre-pandemic levels, keeping Americans financially strained.

While overall grocery inflation is stable, isolated spikes in essential items add to the frustration of consumers grappling with years of rising costs.
