Ontario County farmers face annual losses of $955,999 due to drought, according to a Trace One report. With 815 farms, each loses an average of $1,173 yearly, making drought the region’s most damaging natural hazard.
The report highlights that natural disasters like droughts and floods are driving food price inflation by reducing crop yields and livestock production. Nationwide, farms lose $3.4 billion annually to such hazards.
Researchers stress that climate impacts vary by location, with California, Florida, and Texas suffering the greatest losses.
