Seneca Falls police to deploy drones during “It’s a Wonderful Run” 5K for safety

  • Staff Report

The Seneca Falls Police Department announced plans to use drones to monitor the annual “It’s a Wonderful Run” 5K event today. While the race itself doesn’t begin until 4:40 p.m., law enforcement note they will be using drones throughout the afternoon. Traffic in town, due to the race and festival happening throughout downtown, will be heavy between 1 and 7 p.m. There will also be temporary road closures at different points in the day.

The department said the drones will be deployed as part of the day’s safety and security measures. Public safety officials will use them to oversee the event and ensure the well-being of attendees.

In a statement, the department requested that anyone planning to operate their own drone during the event first report to the Command Post at the Seneca Falls Community Center. Police warned that unauthorized drone flights could interfere with their safety operations, and cooperation from the public is necessary to avoid complications.
