Wood Brothers Racing, NASCAR’s oldest active team and one of its most successful, will commemorate its 75th anniversary in 2025 with a series of fan-focused celebrations. The season-long festivities will honor the team’s storied history and the fans who have supported it over the decades.
Planned initiatives include a fan day at the team’s museum in Stuart, Virginia, special paint schemes, exclusive merchandise, digital content, and an exhibit in the NASCAR Hall of Fame in Charlotte, North Carolina.
“As we prepare for 2025, we’re reflecting on the moments that have shaped our team over the past 75 years while also looking to the future,” said Jon Wood, president of Wood Brothers Racing. “We’re excited to celebrate this milestone with our fans, partners, and the NASCAR community that has contributed to our story.”
Founded in 1950 by Glenn Wood, the team began humbly under a giant beech tree on the Wood family’s Buffalo Ridge, Virginia, homestead. With Glenn and his brothers Leonard, Delano, Clay, and Ray Lee, the team became known for innovation, particularly in perfecting the modern pit stop. Their expertise was so transformative that Ford enlisted the team for the 1965 Indianapolis 500, where their techniques helped Jim Clark and his Ford-powered Lotus secure victory.
Wood Brothers Racing has since achieved 100 NASCAR Cup Series wins, placing it eighth on the all-time list. These include five victories in the iconic DAYTONA 500. Over the years, many of NASCAR’s 75 Greatest Drivers have raced under the Wood Brothers banner, with team patriarchs Glenn (2012) and Leonard Wood (2013) enshrined in the NASCAR Hall of Fame.
“The Wood Brothers Racing story is one of passion and perseverance,” said Leonard Wood. “We’ve seen NASCAR evolve through the decades, and we’re proud to have played a role in shaping its history. Celebrating 75 years gives us a chance to reflect on how far we’ve come and to thank the fans who have supported us every step of the way.”
Still family-run, Wood Brothers Racing spans second and third generations, maintaining a balance between honoring its legacy and planning for the future. Additional details about the 75th-anniversary celebrations will be announced in the coming months.
