Guy Reffitt, the first Jan. 6 rioter to face trial, was resentenced Friday to six years and eight months in prison after delivering an angry, profane rant to the judge. His new sentence is seven months shorter than his original term, following a Supreme Court decision that led to the dismissal of an obstruction charge.
Reffitt, a member of the Texas Three Percenters militia, stormed the Capitol armed with a handgun, zip-tie handcuffs, and body armor. Prosecutors said he planned to drag House Speaker Nancy Pelosi from the building. Though pepper-sprayed before entering, he urged others to breach the Capitol. He also threatened his children after the riot, warning them that “traitors get shot.”
Despite his daughters speaking in his defense, prosecutors argued Reffitt remains unrepentant. He is among several defendants resentenced after the Supreme Court narrowed the scope of federal obstruction charges.
