Auburn hospital launches $50M campaign with heart institute expansion

Auburn Community Hospital began a $50 million capital campaign Thursday with a groundbreaking ceremony for an expanded heart institute and three new operating rooms, according to The Citizen. The Auburn Heart and Vascular Institute, founded in 2023, aims to meet local demand for cardiac care, especially following the retirement of Dr. Rama Godishala.

The new facility, led by cardiologist Dr. Jay Varanasi, will provide services like cardiac catheterization and electrophysiology. Currently, patients needing specialized heart care must travel to Rochester or Syracuse. Hospital President Scott Berlucchi emphasized the importance of timely care for heart patients.

Supported by a $21 million state grant, future plans include a bone and joint center, a neuroscience facility, and a women’s health center, enhancing services for Cayuga County residents.
