Union opened the second half with 10 straight points to break open a Liberty League contest in Bristol Gym tonight, defeating William Smith 59-39.
William Smith went into halftime down just five, 20-15, but Union came out of the break and promptly went on a 10-0 to break the game open. Jelena Perovic powered the run with four of her game-high 15 points. The Herons weren’t able to recover and trailed by double digits for the rest of the night.
Neither team shot particularly well, but the Garnet Chargers managed 37.3% for the game, including a 62.5% clip in the third quarter. William Smith shot only 19.7% on the night.
NOTABLE NUMBERS
- William Smith sophomore Amelia McCulley grabbed a career-high 14 rebounds. She also blocked a team-high three shots.
- Senior Molly Walsh paced the Herons’ scoring efforts with eight points.
- Joining Perovic in double digits were Olivia Cunningham and Jenna Forman added 12 points and 10 points, respectively.
- Perovic blocked a game-high four shots.
