Ocasio-Cortez Becomes First Bluesky User to Reach One Million Followers

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) has become the first person to surpass one million followers on Bluesky, the platform confirmed Monday. This milestone highlights the growing migration of Democrats and left-leaning users from X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, amid dissatisfaction with its current management under Elon Musk.

Ocasio-Cortez attributed the shift to users seeking enjoyment on alternative platforms. Bluesky, founded in 2019 by Twitter’s former CEO Jack Dorsey, has attracted significant attention recently, with CEO Jay Graber reporting about one million new sign-ups daily. Users praise Bluesky’s resemblance to early Twitter, offering features like messaging and a refreshed social feed.

The achievement underscores the platform’s rapid growth and its appeal as a new hub for online engagement.
