President Joe Biden announced a pardon for his son Hunter Biden on December 1, citing selective prosecution and asserting his belief in fairness, according to a statement. Hunter Biden was convicted on gun and tax charges, including falsifying information during a firearm purchase and being a controlled substance user in possession of a gun.
He also faced felony and misdemeanor tax charges, opting to plead guilty before trial.
Previously, President Biden publicly stated he would not interfere in the legal process. In his statement, he emphasized his faith in the justice system while accusing political motives of tainting the proceedings.
He explained that his decision to pardon was based on personal and principled reasoning, seeking understanding for his actions as both a father and president.
