A house fire on Jefferson Avenue in Canandaigua claimed one life Saturday morning. Fire crews arrived at 8:40 a.m. to find heavy smoke and a person trapped inside.

Despite a rescue effort, the individual was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two other residents were taken to UR Thompson Hospital for smoke inhalation and are expected to recover.
The fire, which left the home uninhabitable, was brought under control within two hours. Authorities are investigating the cause of the blaze.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
