Some New York Lawmakers Transition to Bluesky Amid Social Media Shift

  • / Updated:
  • Staff Report

In the wake of this month’s elections, social media platform Bluesky has experienced a 500% surge in daily users, with many migrating from X (formerly Twitter), according to Spectrum News. The trend follows frustrations with X’s content moderation and its owner, Elon Musk.

Among those making the move are New York legislators like State Sen. Rachel May, D-Syracuse, who announced she would stop using X in favor of platforms like Bluesky, citing unchecked hate speech as a key factor.

While experts like Jason Mollica of James Madison University advise maintaining a presence on X for strategic communication, May emphasized the importance of exploring alternative ways to connect with constituents.

She plans to prioritize direct interactions in the upcoming legislative session to foster dialogue across political divides.
