After nearly five years of spearheading climate resilience and education initiatives, Gary Judson is stepping down as coordinator of the Hector Sustainability Committee. Judson, who founded the committee in collaboration with the Town of Hector, leaves behind a legacy of transformative projects that have benefited the community and surrounding areas.
Under Judson’s leadership, the committee raised over $150,000 to upgrade town parks, buildings, equipment, and vehicles to be more energy-efficient. Additionally, the group identified more than $160,000 in savings for Hector residents needing home energy and insulation improvements.
The committee also introduced Schuyler County’s first repair cafes and organized several Earth Day and Volunteer Day events. These efforts contributed to Hector earning Bronze Status as a Climate Smart Community, a designation achieved by completing climate resiliency assessments and adaptation plans.
Judson’s dedication extended beyond committee meetings. He was often seen distributing informational flyers at the local food pantry or Fire Hall breakfasts. His tireless efforts to enhance Hector’s sustainability have been widely admired.
At 85 years old, Judson will continue to support the committee as a volunteer. Leadership will now pass to Anne Secord as Coordinator, with Patrick Judson stepping in as Assistant Coordinator.
