Kiyan Anthony, a top-40 recruit in the class of 2025 and son of NBA legend Carmelo Anthony, announced his commitment to Syracuse on Friday. The decision was revealed on Carmelo’s “7PM in Brooklyn” show.
Kiyan chose Syracuse over finalists USC and Auburn after a thorough recruitment process, including visits to Florida State and USC. Despite his father’s iconic legacy at Syracuse, Kiyan emphasized his intent to forge his own path. “The staff made me feel like family from day one,” he told ESPN. “My dad’s name is on the facility, but I want to create my own legacy.”
A 6-foot-5 shooting guard from Long Island Lutheran, Kiyan is ranked No. 36 in the ESPN 100 and is known for his scoring prowess. He averaged 19.6 points on the Nike EYBL circuit and 21.8 points at the Nike Peach Jam, highlighted by a 40-point performance. Long Island Lutheran coach John Buck praised Kiyan’s growth, noting his leadership and defensive improvements.
Kiyan’s commitment bolsters Syracuse’s 2025 recruiting class, which includes five-star forward Sadiq White, three-star wing Aaron Womack, and Australian guard Luke Fennel. Together, they aim to rejuvenate Syracuse basketball. “With 30,000 fans in the Dome, we’ll put on a show,” Kiyan said.
