Veteran journalist Chris Wallace is leaving CNN after three years, announcing plans to explore new opportunities in the changing media environment.
At 77, Wallace expressed interest in independent platforms like podcasting and streaming, saying, “That seems to be where the action is.”
Wallace, a former “Fox News Sunday” host and son of CBS News legend Mike Wallace, joined CNN in 2021 to lead its ill-fated streaming service CNN+. Following its collapse, he hosted political and interview programs while contributing as a commentator.
Calling the departure amicable, CNN CEO Mark Thompson praised Wallace as one of the most respected voices in political journalism. Wallace, who remains committed to interviews and balanced political analysis, said retirement is off the table: “Nobody in my family wants me to retire.”
