Reps. David Valadao of California and Dan Newhouse of Washington, two of the 10 House Republicans who voted to impeach former President Donald Trump after the January 6 Capitol riot, have secured new terms.
Both lawmakers overcame challenges from Trump-backed opponents in their respective districts.
Valadao, who faced Democrat Rudy Salas in a tight California race, benefited from the state’s top-two primary system, which helped him fend off far-right challengers.
Newhouse, in Washington, defeated Trump-endorsed Republican Jerrod Sessler after significant financial backing from GOP super PACs. The two are now the only remaining House Republicans from the impeachment vote, as others retired or lost in primaries.
