President-elect Donald Trump is expected to nominate South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem as secretary of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), positioning her to oversee key agencies like U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, FEMA, and the Coast Guard.
Known for her staunch support of Trump’s immigration policies, Noem has criticized President Biden’s border approach, calling it dangerous and inadequate.
Despite limited homeland security experience, Noem has voiced strong views on immigration control, once even proposing South Dakota’s support for Texas border security. Her nomination adds to Trump’s lineup of hardline allies for his incoming administration, which includes Tom Homan as “border czar” and Stephen Miller as deputy chief of staff for policy.
