Trump pushes for recess appointments, urges Senate leader candidates to support

President-elect Donald Trump has weighed in on the Senate leadership race, calling on candidates to support recess appointments for his cabinet nominees. In a Truth Social post, Trump urged any Republican seeking the Senate majority leader position to agree to the practice, which would allow him to bypass lengthy Senate confirmations for senior posts.

GOP Senate candidates Rick Scott, John Cornyn, and John Thune echoed support for the proposal, with Scott quickly endorsing Trump’s stance. Cornyn emphasized the president’s constitutional power to make recess appointments, while Thune urged swift action on Trump’s nominees.

Trump also called for halting judicial confirmations during the lame-duck session, aiming to block Democrats from advancing judges until Republicans take control.
