A tragic motorcycle crash on West Union Street claimed the life of a passenger Thursday afternoon, Newark police reported.
The accident occurred on November 7 at approximately 4:44 p.m. when the driver reportedly lost control while attempting to re-enter the roadway after briefly riding onto the sidewalk.
The passenger, a woman whose identity has not yet been released, was thrown from the motorcycle upon impact. Newark Volunteer Fire Department personnel administered CPR at the scene before she was transported to Newark-Wayne Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The motorcycle driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital for treatment. The Wayne County Crash Team arrived on scene to conduct a full reconstruction of the crash and assist with the ongoing investigation.
