Looking back at Ontario County voter turnout: Familiar faces return, early voting rises, and a close Trump win

Ontario County voters leaned toward familiar candidates and saw an increase in early voting this election. Former President Donald Trump won the county with just over 50% of the vote, widening his margin from a slim 33-vote lead in 2020.

In local races, incumbents were favored. Republican Rep. Claudia Tenney and Democratic Rep. Joe Morelle retained their House seats, while former Canandaigua supervisor Sen. Pam Helming easily won her state seat. Early voting surged by nearly 2,600 over 2020, with Republicans leading turnout.

Canandaigua held a special election to fill two City Council seats left vacant last year. Douglas Merrill and Gwen Van Laeken won the seats but will have to run again next year if they seek full terms, adding to an already full ballot for the city.
